Intro
Hey all, I'm back. I took a few months break due to a combination of work, life, and burn-out, but now I've returned to the hobby. Check out my IG for ongoing updates: @yulongsgunpla
The first thing I picked up was this HGIBO Barbatos - Protoss zealot kitbash, made using various pieces, but most notably the Qubeley's head. You can find all the progress photos here. Its been left primed for several months just asking to be painted.
For painting, I used the following paints:
- Primer: Mr. Surfacer
- Metallic parts:
- Base: Mr. Hobby gloss black
- Metallic base: Alclad chrome
- Deep gold: Mr. Hobby gold
- Light gold: Modo Metallic Color MX-10
- Blue: Mr. Hobby clear blue
- Inner frame: Mr. Hobby midnight blue + pinch of grey
- Inner frame details: Enamel grey + pinch of enamel black
- Panel line: Mr. weathering colour black
- Topcoat (gloss): Pledge
- Topcoat (matte): Alclad klear kote flat
- Eyes + Psionic blades: Citadel acrylics
This was actually my first time brush painting acrylics. It is for sure more technically demanding than using airbrush, but quite fun and fast. The effect that it creates looks quite good on small details or kits/miniatures.

Remarks
I really like how the 2-toned gold turned out with this build. I tested several combinations on spoons, including different base coat colours, but I found this combo to be most appealing.
I didn't get too creative with the posing. I just wanted to see this finished so I can resume work on a related kitbash that I plan to pose together with this kit in a action diorama (Starcraft themed, of course).
Stay tuned!
