Intro
Completed my entry for Zakuaurelius' 100k contest. I decided on a Roman centurion themed build. To get the appropriate look, I wanted to add a cowl/cape and round pauldrons, with sword and shield as weapons. Another challenge was to balance my desire for high amounts of details but also having to complete this within a deadline.
I snapped the kit on Nov 7 and began planning and modifying
By the 23rd, I had a gist of what the kit would look like; there was still scribing to be done. I took detail parts from dollar store star wars hot wheel toys. At this stage I had ordered the Kotobukiya side cloak, but had no idea whether it would arrive on time.
I noticed a gap between the shoulder and the chest when I attached the IBO Barbatos pauldrons using magnets, so I scratch built a couple spacers using styrene. These parts slot perfectly into the shoulder armour connector for the original kit's shoulders
The cloak came just in time so I was able to complete all surface detailing. I had to carve the cloak extensively in order to get it to fit onto the kit. The effort seems worthwhile; it has an imposing look with all these mods.
By now I had about 1 week to fix surface details, and paint the kit. For painting, I took the shortest path possible; primed but without re-assembly, and mostly guessed on what the colour should be. I used Mr.Hobby lacquers: wood brown and mahogany for main body, hull red mixture for the red, and did post-shading with lighter tones.
It was not comfortable at all since I wasn't sure how the colours would look together, but I was relieved when everything looked pretty complementary at the end. No time for decals, unfortunately, but I think the clean look is quite nice. Notice the "delta" on the shield; inspired by the spartan shields that had "lambda" on it.

Please enjoy
Cloak, shield, and backpack are removable since they are attached by magnets. Quite pleased with the pre-shading here with the dark reds

Remarks
I still have the Sandrock to finish (had to pause on it due to the contest). Overall feeling quite productive.
Until next time!
