Third WIP of the gouf custom. This month I mostly tackled the LED wiring of the kit and got it ready for painting. The weather has been wet and cold so there were not many days that I could get any priming done. I managed to snap build most of my MG Sandrock as my next project.
Back to the gouf.
First, I had to finish up the Gatling shield by adding a few more surface details to the shield.
Also worked on the gun barrel and ammo tank to create more visual interest. This way I can get more colour separation during painting. The current planned configuration is to equip it with a two sided axe (meant for 1/144 scale but it works here as a one handed weapon).
Next was creating enough clearance to fit a USB port into the crotch. Probably not the best place for it, but I think I will integrate the USB wire into the display stand, so it shouldn't be too glaring. As for the fit, I had to add a few pieces of pla-plate inside to ensure it was snug and supported.
I wired 4 LEDs in parallel. Due to the 5V output of the USB I had to solder a resistor for every LED. I then sealed the exposed wires with some liquid rubber.
Next came priming the parts. Haven't used my airbrush for a long while.
I assembled the main body to test for LED clearance. The primer certainly unified the details I added, and now it looks less busy. There are still surface imperfections to clean up and some small pieces to prime before my final primer layer, but it is finally coming together.
LEDs light up the eye, 2 thrusters at the back (to be added), and the cockpit. Fitting it into the chest was pretty nerve wracking. The wires were very thin and I wasn't sure how much bending they could take, but thankfully they still lit up after closing the chest. I'll probably never touch them again during painting.
Now to come up with a colour scheme and finish painting before winter comes.
